17. May 2009 in Bergen, Norway's national day

The national day in Norway is big and popular among the population. In Bergen you will see half the population in the streets, and many in their national costumes. Bands play and children eat lots of ice cream :-)

You're The Voice

Chris Thompson (former Manfred Mann's Earth Band lead singer) with the Mads Eriksen Band at the Bergen pub, Madam Felle. (Many don't realise that Chris Thompson was co-writer on this song)
The song was written for the Australian pop singer John Farnham in 1986, and became an international hit.

You're The Voice
We have the chance, to turn the pages over
We can write what we want to write
We gotta make ends meet, before we get much older
We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?

You're the voice, try and understand it
Make a noise and make it clear
Oh-wo-wo-wo, oh-wo-wo-wo
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
Oh-wo-wo-wo, oh-wo-wo-wo

This time, we know we all can stand together
With the power to be powerful
Believing, we can make it better
We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each otherDown the barrel of a gun?

Blinded by the Light

Chris Thompson (former Manfred Mann's Earth Band lead singer) with the Mads Eriksen Band at the Bergen pub, Madam Felle. The song was written by Bruce Springsteen, but his single from 1973 was no success. Manfred Mann's Earth Band were more successful with their cover version on the "Roaring silence" album in 1976. The song reached #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 on 19 February 1977, and #1 on the Canadian RPM chart the same day.

Blinded By The Light

Madman drummers bummers and Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat.
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat.
With a boulder on my shoulder feelin' kinda older I tripped the merry-go-round.
With this very unpleasing sneezing and wheezing the calliope crashed to the ground.
Some all-hot half-shot was headin' for the hot spot snappin' his fingers clappin' his hands.
And some fleshpot mascot was tied into a lover's knot with a whatnot in her hand.
And now young Scott with a slingshot finally found a tender spot and throws his lover in the sand.
And some bloodshot forget-me-not whispers daddy's within earshot. Save the buckshot, turn up the band.

And she was blinded by the light.
Cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night.
Blinded by the light.
She got down but she never got tight, but she'll make it alright.

Some brimstone baritone anti-cyclone rolling stone preacher from the east.
He says: "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in its funny bone, that's where they expect it least".
And some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner all alone watchin' the young girls dance.
And some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone to remind him of the feeling of romance.

Yeah he was blinded by the light.
Cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night.
Blinded by the light.
He got down but she never got tight, but he's gonna make it tonight.

Some silicone sister with her manager's mister told me I got what it takes.
She said I'll turn you on sonny, to something strong if you play that song with the funky break,
And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe to go outside.
And little Early-Pearly came by in her curly-wurly, and asked me if I needed a ride,
Oh, some hazard from Harvard was skunked on beer playin' backyard bombardier.
Yes and Scotland Yard was trying hard, they sent a dude with a calling card,
he said, do what you like, but don't do it here.
Well I jumped up, turned around, spit in the air, fell on the ground.
Asked him which was the way back home.
He said take a right at the light, keep goin' straight until night, and then boy, you're on your own.

And now in Zanzibar, a shootin' star was ridin' in a side car, hummin' a lunar tune.
Yes, and the avatar said blow the bar, but first remove the cookie jar.
We're gonna teach those boys to laugh too soon
And some kidnapped handicap was complainin' that he caught the clap from some mousetrap he bought last night,
Well I unsnapped his skull cap, and between his ears I saw a gap, but figured he'd be all right.

He was just blinded by the light.
Cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night.
Blinded by the light.
Mama always told me not to look into the sights of the sun.
Oh but mama, that's where the fun is.
I was blinded.
I was blinded.
I was blinded.

Davy's On The Road Again

Chris Thompson (former Manfred Mann's Earth Band lead singer) with the Mads Eriksen Band at the Bergen pub, Madam Felle.

Davy's On The Road Again was written by John Simon and Robbie Robertson and recorded first time on "The Band" album, "John Simon's Album" in 1970. Manfred Mann's earth Band recorded their cover version in 1978 on the legendary Album "Watch"

Davy's on the road again
Wearin' different clothes again
Davy's turning handouts down
To keep his pockets clean
All his goods are sold again
His word's as good as gold again
Sez if you see Jean now ask her please to pity me
Jean and I we moved along
Since the day - down in the hollow
When the mind went driftin' on
And the feet were soon to follow

Davy's on the road again
Wearin' different clothes again
Davy's turning handouts down
To keep his pockets clean
Sayin' his goodbyes again
Wheels are in his eyes again
Sez if you see Jean now ask her please to pity me
Downtown in the big town
Gonna set you back on your heels
With a mouth full of memories
And a lot of stickers for my windshield
Shut the door
Cut the light
Davy want be home tonight
You can wait till the dawn rolls in
You won't see our Davy again

Davy's on the road again
Wearin' different clothes again
Davy's turning handouts down
To keep his pockets clean
Sayin' his goodbyes again
Wheels are in his eyes again
Sez if you see Jean now ask her please to pity me
Downtown in the big town
Gonna set you back on your heels
With a mouth full of memories
And a lot of stickers for my windshield
Shut the door
Cut the light
Davy want be home tonight
You can wait till the dawn rolls in
You won't see our Davy again

You Angel You

Chris Thompson (former Manfred Mann's Earth Band lead singer) with the Mads Eriksen Band at the Bergen pub, Madam Felle May 1. 2009.

The song "You Angle You" was written by Bob Dylan in 1973, and the Earth Band cover was recorded in 1979 on the album "Angel Station"

Lyrics:

You angel you,
You got me under your wing,
And the way you walk and the way you talk,
Feel I could almost sing.

You angel you,
You're as fine as anything's fine,
Though I just walk and I watch you talk,
Your memory's on my mind.

Even though I can't sleep at night for trying,
Well I never did feel this way before,
I never did get up and walk the floor,
If this is love then give me more and more and more and more and more.

You angel you,
You're as fine as fine can be,
And the way you walk and the way you talk,
Is the way it ought to be.

You angel you.
Well I never did feel this way before,
I never did get up and walk the floor,
If this is love then give me more and more and more and more and more.

You angel you,
You got me under your wing,
And the way you walk and the way you talk,
Feel I could almost sing.

You angel you,
You're as fine as anything's fine,
Though I just walk and I watch you talk,
Your memory's on my mind.

Even though I can't sleep at night for trying,
Well I never did feel this way before,
I never did get up and walk the floor,
If this is love then give me more and more.

~Bob Dylan

"Twitter-brukere går fort lei"

Artikkel i Bergens Tidende signert Samfunnsredaktør Hilde Sandvik bruker overskriften; "Twitter-brukere går fort lei", med undertekst; Seks av ti vender ryggen til nettfarsotten.

----------------------------------

Mitt innlegg under artikkelen:

On the road again

Travel doesn't only mean shifting your body from one side of the earth to the other. It can in fact also mean the trip you do in the morning going to work! A trip like that can also be an adventure if one tries to be awake and observe the little things out of the ordinary.
Like this morning on my way to work, I was listening to the local news on my car radio, and they reported a police chase on the island where I work. Apparently a vigilant person had observed a couple of thieves trying to row off with a boat at 4 am. He called the police and took them in his own boat to chase the thieves. The thieves had then jumped ashore and the chase was afoot.
Just after hearing this, I saw ahead a police car parked halfway in the road, six policemen and a German Shepherd. I could see the police were interviewing a couple of young gentlemen that clearly were not on their way to work. Well done!
So, what was your travel to work like this morning?

Update:
Local paper confirms the arrest:

Thought of the day

A toothpick a day

The tilting swan

Update on the swan saga: The swan was there again today! But this time in the other end of the lake and in the same position as yesterday, enjoying his breakfast. I guess at commenting the same thing, but the next day requires a new expression... The swan was tilted downwards under the surface? But I'm sure it was the same swan! I could recognise the way he enthusiasticly waved his left ....erhm..foot? Flipper...Flopper -what do you call the foot of a swan?? Anyway, when you see the same creature several times, then its customary to name it. So if I see the upturned guy tomorrow again, then his name will become "Nelson". But if he is not showing his bottom, then I will surely not recognise him...hmmmm

Hey, this earth hour thing is real cool!
I will of course support it together with my family..... In a way it will make all of us on this little planet feel like a family for a short while

I saw a swan with his @ss in the air

This morning on my way to work I passed by a small lake, and there I saw a swan with his ass in the air. I guess he was eating at something under the surface, and as he was long under I imagine he was enjoying a good breakfast!
What did you see on your way to work this morning? Do you travel to work or just go to work?
I must admit that most often I just go to work remembering nothing, but once in a while it's nice to "travel to work".

Driving the Lærdal valley

Driving the Lærdal valley, first descending from the Hemsedal mountain, then stopping at the Borgund Stave Church and driving through the Lærdal tunnel - the longest road tunnel in the world!

Lærdal Tunnel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lærdal Tunnel (NorwegianLærdalstunnelen) is a 24.5 km (15.2 mi)-long road tunnel connecting Lærdal and Aurland in Sogn og Fjordane county in western Norway. Construction started in 1995 and was completed in 2000, thus succeeding the Gotthard Road Tunnel as the longest road tunnel in the world. The tunnel is a part of the E16 main route between Oslo and Bergen.[1]

Rail tunnels such as the Seikan Tunnel in Japan and the Channel Tunnel between England and France can exceed 50 km (30 miles) in length.

The design of the tunnel takes into consideration the mental strain on drivers, so the tunnel is divided into four sections, separated by three large mountain caves. The caves break the routine, providing a refreshing view and allowing drivers to take a short rest.[1]

Unlike the newest tunnels in Norway, the tunnel is not tolled.
